I had the pleasure of speaking with French producer Sébastien Chauveau for his upcoming podcast series Au fil de l’eau, which will feature two documentaries dedicated to the River Meuse and is scheduled to air in 2027.

We discussed emerging contaminants such as PFAS, pharmaceutical residues, and pesticides, and how they affect aquatic organisms. I also explained how ecotoxicology and biological biomarkers can complement chemical analyses to provide a more complete picture of ecosystem health. Finally, I introduced the ORION project, which combines chemical and biological monitoring to assess the state of the Meuse across the Belgian–French border.

Many thanks to Sébastien for the engaging conversation and for highlighting the importance of understanding not only which species live in our rivers, but also their health and ability to cope with environmental pressures.

Stay tuned for the podcast release in 2027!
