How can we better understand and protect the quality of our rivers in a changing world? The Interreg France–Wallonie–Vlaanderen project ORION tackles this question by combining water-quality monitoring, ecological research, and predictive modelling to assess the health of aquatic ecosystems in the Meuse basin.
At UNamur, our team contributes its expertise in ecotoxicology, investigating how contaminants affect aquatic organisms under real-world environmental conditions. By exposing sentinel species directly in rivers and measuring both contaminant accumulation and biological responses, we aim to better understand the pressures these ecosystems face.
The project also seeks to develop practical tools for water managers and raise public awareness of pollution and the vulnerability of aquatic environments.
We’re pleased to see our work featured in the UNamur Newsroom and in the Impact section of Omalius magazine (#40, April 2026)!
