On 23 September, we celebrated the retirement of Prof. Luc Brendonck — an outstanding scientist, mentor, and friend who has had a lasting impact on many of us, myself included.

Luc was my PhD advisor, and in many ways, he is also the scientific grandfather of the LAB! It was a pleasure to surprise him with a dinner and drinks alongside the researchers who have been closest to him throughout his career, including his own group, known as the Brennies.

Beyond his scientific contributions, Luc has helped shape generations of researchers through his enthusiasm, generosity, and commitment. His influence certainly lives on in the LAB, and I’m personally very grateful to be one of the many people whose scientific journey he helped shape.

Congratulations on your retirement, Luc — and here’s to the next chapter! 🍻
